Utopia High School’s boy’s and girl’s golf teams recently competed in the 1A Region Four Golf Tournament, and both teams will be competing in the UIL 1A State Tournament in May.
The girl’s teams placed 1st in region, led by Kinsley Cox, who shot rounds of 90 and 86 for a total of 176 beating the 2nd place finisher by 19 strokes. Following her in 4th place was Kylie Bomer, Hallie Moore (tied for 8th), Lizzie Hryniszak (tied for 28th), and Danika McCarty, who placed 45th.
The boys team placed 3rd as a team led by Jaxon Lopez, who finished second after shooting scores of 76 and 87 for a total of 163. He was followed by Cooper Wernette, who tied for 18th, Jett Smothers, who tied for 34th, Jay Cantu, who tied for 38th; and Colton Snow, who tied for 50th.
The girls will play in the state tournament on May 15-16 at Plum Creek Golf Course in Kyle, and the boy’s team will be playing May 22-23 at the same location.
