CLARENDON COUNTY, SC — A truck driver was killed early Tuesday when a tractor-trailer left Interstate 95 in Clarendon County, struck a guardrail and came to rest in the opposite lane, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
The crash happened around 4:15 a.m. near the 100-mile marker. Troopers said the driver was pronounced dead at the scene.
No one else was reported hurt in the wreck. Authorities have not said what caused the tractor-trailer to run off the road.
Crash happened before dawn near mile marker 100
The collision took place on I-95 in Clarendon County, a stretch of highway that carries heavy long-distance traffic through the central part of the state. The early hour meant roadway conditions were still dark when the truck went off the interstate.
According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, the tractor-trailer was traveling on the interstate before leaving the roadway and hitting a guardrail. After the impact, the vehicle stopped in the lane opposite from where it had been moving.

Driver pronounced dead at the scene
The truck driver died at the crash site, troopers said. No identifying information about the victim was released in the initial update.
